These boys move coal and other minerals up and down the river. This guy is about 100 ft long with two large open bays. Crew usually family that live in a small apartment behind the pilot house. Don, are you doing a Rhine River cruise on a long boat, or just hanging out in the Netherlands. My wife and I did a Rhine River cruise in 2016, it was awesome. Started in Amsterdam and ended in Basel, Switzerland Enjoy your vacation. Don't miss the Rijks Museum Amsterdam!

On the subject of railroads: Once you leave Amsterdam on the Rhine and head into Germany and France, there are railways on both sides of the Rhine, pretty much all the way through Germany.
