Before using the electronic unit, try this with a DC HO or G power pack that has a reverse switch in place of the e-unit motor leads to see how this works, and check the current draw with an ammeter, so you can get a good indication of just how much amperage this scheme draws and to assess the performance. My guess is, that while it all works, you may not be impressed with amount of current or the decrease in performance.
