When I add LED markers on diesels, I use the 2mm post lights and just drill the hole to that size. I don't want them to be huge in scale size, I think the 2mm in 1:48 scale is about right, that would be a four inch diameter light in 1:1 scale. That also eliminates the issue of painting any frame around them.
