A couple questions on using 4 rail track.

Did American Flyer ever give suggestions on how to set up the track if instead of running circle/oval, the track plan was "L"shaped?

Would you make a taper on the 4th rail so it would not snag anything?

How about if you wanted to use 3 rail switches also?
