Rob I tried cleaning the fingers and drum but that did not help. Thanks for the tip though.

Fred I can confirm that the drum does move.

Not sure if I want to "Hard Wire" the unit.

I may just take the shell of and see if there is wiring that is worn or frayed and go from there.
