Dan, I just bought the same coal loader. I'm very happy with it but I agree it does not pick up much coal. If I find a solution I'll let you know.
I also just picked up a cattle corral and car. Its in great shape with great looking car, corral and cows. I got all of it for $10 bucks! I was looking for just the car to add to a beat up corral I already have.
I'm a 3 railer just getting into American Flyer. I'm having a lot of fun with 3/16th!
