Reply to "American Flyer Century Uncatalogued Set"

Here is a Minty Trojan set for ya.... Thanks to Dave for IDing it.

Is the Red on these cars the same as the Ambassidor Red?  Asking since I'm gonna need some paint.....

Also am I reading the above notes correctly that this loco is a 4682?  No fire box light ....

The red is probably the same as some 1933 Ambassador type cars.  The earlier Ambassador cars are typically a darker, richer red (similar to the Hamiltonian cars).  As the years go by, the color becomes more fire engine red.  You would want Ambassador cars that are bright red with grey trucks and decals to observe the closest color match.

I have observed earlier 4331/4332 cars that are slightly more crimson, while the very late version is slightly brighter, fire engine red.  The difference comes down to hair splitting at its finest and how good your eyes are.  I guess what I'm saying is that you want red red paint, not orange red, dark red or violet red.

4682 (4680 loco with 4671 tender) combination should not have the firebox light or bell ringing mech. on the motor.  Set appears to be a catalog correct "Trojan" to me.

Adding the firebox light to the motor is fairly easy and way more fun if you are an operator.

Remove the roofs from the passenger cars.  The inside of the roofs should give you a great sample of how they would look originally.
