I've done a few upgrades with the 44:1 gearbox, an 8,000 RPM Mabuchi sounds like an airplane taking off at full speed, which ends up being around 40+ scale MPH. They sound OK up to about 25-30, but then you really start to get a lot of sound and vibration. I'm guessing even small unbalances in the flywheel make a big different at those speeds.
