I have rewound a number of Flyer S gauge diesel and steam armatures in the past. I do make sure I use the same gauge wire. In my experience you will never get the same number of turns on as they did in the factory. I usually get close to 90% of the original length back on and have not noticed any difference in performance or overheating by having less wire.
