No shop work required for the 3/2 trucks. Remove the pickup rollers, take the bottom cover off the truck, remove the 3-rail wheelsets, and install the MTH 2-rail wheelsets. Place 3/2 switch in "2" and go. Like the MTH GP7/9, MTH did not, to my knowledge, make fixed pilots for the S2.
MTH did not make a premier line SW1, so they did not have the 3/2 trucks. However, Northwest Shortline still makes 2-rail wheelsets for the Lionel S2. The Lionel S2 trucks actually have removable wheelsets, so the conversion is easier than for solid block trucks but still requires fabrication of 2-rail electrical pickups. I have not seen the Lionel SW1 trucks, but I'm hoping they used the trucks from the S2 so that the Northwest Shortline wheelsets could be used.
Any word on MTH 2-rail steam?
