Atlas O Detail parts - what glue?

I have several Atlas O steam era classics hoppers. They are excellent highly detailed models. With that said, the details are VERY fragile/prone to breakage.

Plastic cement does not work and CA is a challenge also when repairing.

Perhaps they are ABS?

Has any had success with other glues/solvents?
