I am looking at how to make the engines start slowly. if I turn the throttle the engine responds instantly. I am not looking for that instant response rather something picks up speed and slows downs gradually. Is that momentum? If so how do I set that.
I know I can as I have set it on my other Atlas engines I was referring to (B&O and Rock Island). I just can't remember how to do it.

You probably have Atlas 30134013, F7A, Santa Fe engine 37L. It was cataloged in 2015 and delivered in 2017. It is a TMCC engine. Using a Cab2, it could be run by setting the engine info to either TMCC or R100. TMCC has 32 speed steps, but it has momentum and "official railroad speed" settings. R100 has 100 speed steps which gives finer control of the speed, but it does not have either momentum or "official railroad speed" settings. If you want your engine to start/stop "gradually" then you will have to set the engine as a TMCC engine in the Cab2 remote.
1. Make sure the engine is set to the 100 speed step setting. With the engine powered up, press Aux1+0+Aux1+0+BOOST. If I remember correctly, after pressing BOOST the engine moves forward a short distance and then stops. You should now be in speed step 100.
2. Using the Cab2, select the engine number, press INFO, and scroll to make sure you have DIESEL, TMCC, AND RAILSOUND5 selected for the engine.
3. At the bottom of the Cab2 remote are three buttons: L, M, H which give increasing amounts of momentum. If you press and hold down M, you can use the red throttle dial to give values between L and H. Although I don't usually run on H, for the purposes of testing I would suggest pressing the H momentum button. This give momentum setting 8. You can change it later.
4. With the momentum setting on H, rotate the throttle dial quickly until the target speed indicator in the display is half way across the screen. The engine should "slowly" start to accelerate. Since TMCC has the speed graph in the display like Legacy, you can watch the current speed gradually increase toward the target speed that you set. But, with 32 speed step function of TMCC you have to accept that each time the engine changes to the next speed step there will be a rather sudden change in speed as it transitions to the next speed step. Legacy has 200 speed steps so the transition from one speed step to the next is much smoother.
5. Rotate the throttle dial back to 0 quickly and the engine should take about forever to slow down.
6. If you have the engine set as R100 in Cab2, the engine will change speed step instantly to each individual "click" of the throttle dial. There is no momentum in R100, but since there are 100 speed steps instead of 32, the engine will change speed more smoothly if you slowly rotate the throttle dial.
If these directions don't work, I have no idea what is wrong.
