Atlas Turntable Problem

My Atlas turntable is having a problem. The big black gear that moves the turntable is held in place by a little nub on the bottom, when it runs, the gear nub jumps out of its place and the gear jams. Is something supposed to hold the gear in place, besides the nub and the hole it sits in?
