I am not aware of any rechargeable "9-volt" batteries being 9 volts, since rechargeable cells are usually 1.2 volts and any battery must be a multiple of that. Most commercial "9-volt" batteries have 6 cells, for 7.2 volts. A charger designed for them should also work with an 8.4 volt battery, but at a slower rate. I would check current with an ammeter.
