BlueRail upgrade for O gauge

With MTH announcing closing shop, I've been contemplating my future locomotive purchases. Aside from Lionel's quality problems, they don't produce much variety in my road names of choice. So, I'm thinking about low cost used locomotives that are worthy of upgrade. BlueRail looks interesting. Anyone else think so? I've heard that DCC has the best sound options.
