It may be a bit hasty to abandon bluetooth as a viable control system based on Lionel's shorter range implementation. I have tested several aftermarket bluetooth based systems with excellent operating range results. One of these systems was described in OGRR Run314. I have also observed good range results with the WiFi systems tested.
