Broken Magnets

What causes the odyssey magnets to break? Came out in 4 pieces. I purchased last week a Santa Fe Alco S-2 switcher new in box and in shipping box, but old stock. Ran it for a few minutes last week everything was fine. Last night started to run it again, in command only has 2 speeds run or stop. In conven it runs fine. Wheels and pick-up rolls show no signs of being on the track. . I can't complain to much got it for just over $200. but it would be nice to last more than a week before repairs.
