Another variation might be to design your landscape on paper first, and perhaps rough it out but leave it far from finished; then design your industry/roads/town/bridges/buildings/track plan around it, which would be more realistic and create interesting challenges to design around, just like in the real world. It would avoid the unnecessary work of finishing the landscape and then altering it, perhaps thereby getting the best of both worlds. Curious if anyone out there has tried this approach?
