Reply to "Building Shallow relief Mountain & Forested Hills Backdrops"

Thanks Hal,  I made all the walls.  The concrete retaining wall under the mountian is made of 1/8 inch masonite because I had no room to spare for the siding that travels under it....

The block retaining walls are scribed on Polystyrene pink insulation.... I scribe them with a really sharp lead pencil, then emboss them with a couple of pieces of rough broken granite stones, then paint them.   It hard to see in the photo, but I built a long retaining wall under the backdrop with the trees, it's about 5 inches tall, 7 feet long....  I made that one out of pink styrene insulation also...  If I have the room (depth) I prefer to make them out of styrene.   I cut the styrene on a table saw and I use a 7 1/4 inch blade instead of a 10 inch blade because it creates about 50% of the dust as the blade kerf is really thin.   Honestly, I started making them because I needed so many linear feet,  would have cost me a small fortune to buy the precast wall sections..
