Reply to "Buy anything cool lately?"

Well, I am not sure if it is "cool" by the most strict definition, but it represents a real find for me.  On 9/17/2021 in Front End Friday, I posted pictures of my Lionel 1110, "Scout" engine, from 1948-1952.  Its a fully die cast boiler engine with some real weight but it is hampered by the unreliable fully enclosed motor, although this one does still work (sometimes).  However the tragedy at that posting was that I had the engine, acquired long ago, but NO TENDER!  I took pictures of it coupled up to a Marx NYC 4 wheel tender that at least was of the approximate right size but come on, this was just unacceptable.  So I go looking for a 1948-1952, sheet metal Lionel Scout Tender with scout trucks and couplers - talk about an unlikely search.  So much to my amazement, on the E-bay we all know and either hate or love, what should appear but a Lionel Scout Tender, complete and correct and offered alone without the engine (which I didn't need) and for $10 + ship and tax.  So for under $20 I can make my 1110 complete.  Here are some pictures.

Here is the side view, showing the loco / tender pair

Here is a close up of the "Scout" tender, note that the key here is that it is lettered for "Lionel Scout" and not "Lionel Lines" as is the most common tender markings.  It has no whistle in this match up, never did.

Just to make up for my patched together F.E.F photo, here is an improved view with the proper tender.

I hope I didn't insult anyone with my definition of "cool" but this find was cool for me and completed the pair of a neat early post war engine/loco that never was one of Lionel's top dogs but I bet it brought some youngster great joy at a Christmas long ago.

Best Wishes

Don
