At the TTOS SW Division meet today I picked up this really sharp Lionel 251 with original box. Consulting my new Greenberg Guide (Lionel O Gauge Volume I: 1915-1928), I found it is the 1929 variant with Type 6 motor. It looks to be original except for having Bowser replacement wheels installed along with some new wires inside. Whomever installed the wheels did a nice job, but the replacements are a spoked variety instead of the original disc type. It runs great, the pendulum type reverse unit works perfectly. It appears to have had very low mileage- it has the phenolic intermediate gears, but they look to be in perfect shape. Interestingly however it's so tall that (in common with my Lionel 256) it doesn't quite fit under all of the "low clearances" on the layout. Inside the box was an original instruction sheet.
