Can a mechanical E-unit be used with a DC motor with bridge rectifier?

Using AC I know an ECRU is oft used where a permanent mag DC motor is involved. However, if a bridge rectifier is wired to a perm mag DC motor can a mechanical E-unit be used to change motor polarity?

I've got plenty of rectifiers and mechanical E-units but I'm traveling and can't experiment until next week. Thanks in advance.
