First, I must admit that I did not read through 5 pages of this thread. So if anyone has mentioned the SW-1's already forgive me.  Just wondering..........How is it Lionel "has the room" to install a fan operated smoke unit when MTH said there was not enough room? Also, I think the fixed pilots make this a winner. Why couldn't MTH do fixed pilots? I stopped buying Lionel cold turkey about 5 years ago because of  issues I had with a loco 1 month out of warranty. I vowed to never buy again, however, this SW-1 gets me thinking about buying again. After all......it has been 5 years......Right? Maybe I can get over it and give them another chance.   Oh no....wait a minute......549.00 for a tiny switcher?  Let Me think this over.

The SW1 has a single motor mounted between the trucks. The MTH version has two motors mounted vertically. That's why there is more room for a smoke unit. Only the shell is MTH, the mechanism is Lionel’s.

Also consider the MTH version was a Railking intended for folks with smaller layouts less likely to have 054 minimum curves.
