Reply to "Changing Sound Files On Engines"

Hi Ricky:

This sounds very much like what happened to my PS3 unit.  There were some errors, then there wasn't, then the motor had sound but no lights, etc., etc.  I actually had two motors with these symptoms.  I started them both again from the top, and took it slowly through the process as Barry and MTH laid it out.  For the first motor, there were no errors loading the sound or chain file, and I was able to add it to the remote and it worked again as it should.  The other one had no errors on the sound file but would not load a chain file.  Now its PS3 board on the way to MTH for a forced-reflash of its software.  I followed the procedure, and something still went awry somewhere.

I will always defer to Barry's vast knowledge of DCS, and what he says above about loading whatever sound files you want provided you follow the rules in his book.  However, my experience has been that loading other sound files is OK and usually works fine, but should be done so rather sparingly as boards can still get scrambled even if you follow the proper procedures.
