Changing traction tires on a Lionel AC12 ( cab forward)

One of the four traction tires slipped off my Lionel AC12 cab forward. Unfortunately, Lionel put the traction tires on the driver hidden by the Cross-Head and other drive gear. Any clue as to how to get the old tire off and a new one installed? Do you have to take the whole engine apart? Reach me at: milt@paiger.org Thanks
