Reply to "chipped plastic for coal?"

As a kid I bought a bag of American Flyer coal (that I think may still be around here somewhere). It seemed to be made of chipped plastic rod, less than 1/8" in diameter, and cut into less than 1/8" sections. It was very uniform, though.
