I`ve always used the track cleaning blocks, followed by vaccuming the track (to get rid of any dust particals etc.). Then have used denatured alcohol (either by hand or track cleaning car) on the entire layout. Never had any issues with any track company rusting from trying this method. Just my opinion though.........
