Club needs engine for Holiday layout

Our Sun City (near Charlotte) railroad club needs an S-scale engine. The small steam engines do not work on our Am Models 30˚X-over. A diesel engine did. Anybody recommend an engine or have one for sale? Or any suggestions re the 30˚ X-over and why steam engines won't negotiate it? We start operations Dec 6 for the community.
