Cutting L.E.D. Christmas light strips to fit underneath layout

Has anyone tried custom cutting a string of LED Christmas lights to fit a portion of your layout? I've just run (2) 50 foot strips of commercial super bright LED white Christmas lights under my layout with great success as far as bright lighting. However I have (1) 50 foot set left and I need to cut it to only 20 feet. Can you just cut and solder? Or will it kill the set? All response appreciated.
