Well, we keep this thread alive hoping someone with either, both engines, or new engine/2005 cars, will tell us. We get your question. Seems either there is no one who can compare or they aren't replying to the thread. Best bet now would be to use the Lionel "talk to us" option and ask them. Wish we could help more.
