DCC equipped locomotive on DC

I have a Bachmann 2-6-6-2 on order. I don't (yet) have a DCC controller, so would like to test run my new acquisition on DC. Question is whether I'll be able to do this without using a DCC controller to set the dual mode internal controller to DC?
