I know that this post is old but maybe some folks like me need this information. You can indeed unbrick the remote by reinstalling the firmware or software for it. My remote had the oldest version and i unbricked with the newest version. To clear things up a bit, follow the instructions but you will notice the screen on the remote will stay off for the whole install or update when unbricking. Let the firm/software run and finish. Follow the instructions on screen and then power the remote on and it should boot right up.
