I know that this is late to the show, however, in keeping with the title of this thread I thought to share how benchwork can be constructed for a triple decker module with out front support members. Simply cut all the fingers from the same sheet of plywood.
You can layout the cutting so the fingers interlace so as to minimize waste:
You can always cut lightening holes for hand carry portable modules:
Lightening holes should be in the center of any beam no larger than 1/3 the width of the beam to maintain strength.
