Determining curves on O gauge

Question on curved track: I laid 031 around a mountain in a double "S" curve with some straight in-between, but it seems a bit tight; the RS3s negotiate it at slow-to-moderate speed but can I ease the pain with 042 or do I need to go to 054? Thanks.
