Did the postwar Lionel 2243C have a plastic chassis?

Did the Lionel 2243C B unit have a plastic chassis? I have a nice set of the 2243 F3 engine and the 2243C B unit and noticed that the B unit has a plastic chassis while the A unit has the diecast chassis. I know Lionel cheapin' up the 2243 for the 027 sets.
