Reply to "Disassembly of, Fixed Voltage on Pre-War Lionel 011 Switches"

This is an old post but I'll reply since I just spent hours getting these  (012) to work. You have to turn the switch over and carefully pry back the tabs ( they may break) and take the bottom out. The switch motor is bolted to the top plate. There is a wire running from the center rail to the solenoid.  I would think one could disconnect this from the center rail and run it to a separate power source. You would have to drill a hole in the bottom plate to run the wire through or just leave the plate off. I haven't tried this, however.
