IMO, it's good for the hobby for it to be known that such celebrities have a keen interest in the Greatest Hobby in the World.

Also, I believe David Letterman is a private person. I, for one, respect that. If I ever saw him at a train show, I would not ask him for an autograph, but I might wink at him or give him a thumbs up.
