I have a modest 9x13 layout with three independent but interconnected loops. I enjoy the chaos of 3 trains running at the same time, but also enjoy watching a single consist gracefully running between the upper and lower loops without any switching necessary. I have a hard time having fun watching trains run around in a circle - unless its watching the grandkids get excited about it.

One of these days I'll figure out how to program the DCS and run several on the interconnected loops at the same time.
