Doubleheading proto 2 with proto 3

Can this be done without the engines fighting eachother? I have one of the proto 3 2 rail Russian decapods and im considering getting another(this one proto 2) to double head them.

Id also be doing this with a conventional dc powerpack. Would this work, especially w conventional dc?
