I found the solution, but I am curious about the micro switch response. If the switch were not throwing far enough to open the switch, would the switch not continue trying to close in the same direction rather than reversing? What I found that solved the problem was an open ground circuit in the track leading up to the switch. Don't know exactly why that caused the switch to reverse, but with the ground attached , no problem; open the ground circuit, switch reverses. Will have to study more closely to figure exactly how this is happening.
