Reply to "Ease my fears or steer me away from Gargraves Flex . . ."

I am building my second layout with GarGraves track - both flex and sectional curves.  Initially, I was concerned about using flex track, but it is providing exactly the kinds of curves that I need.  Here's an example of being able to fix a mistake I made with rigid track.  Take a look at the rightmost "straight" track from the bridge deck (the black part) south (towards the camera).  See how the rigid GarGraves creates a kink?

Now, take a look at the solution - a long, gradual, very slight curve made by bending the track ever so gently around a hot water tank.  It works!!!  By varying the angle of the track relative to the tank, you can get almost any radius of curve you need!

As for cutting the track, I've never had much luck using a Dremel with a cut-off wheel.  It bounces or maybe I'm not doing it right.  I like these two techniques:

  1. Clamp the track in a vice and use a hacksaw - a bit labor-intensive and slow.
  2. Use a compound mitre saw (be sure to wear gloves and protective eyeware or a face shield) - quick & clean!
