I use Elmer's Wood Glue (the yellow stuff), water & dish soap for all my landscaping needs. On areas that I'm going to walk on, I first put several layers on landscaping down the normal way, vacuum up the unglued stuff and then "paint" the glue on and let it soak in. It gets rock hard and lasts a whole season of stomping on it. Heavy walk areas get re-done every year.
