The actual tie with the flip up at edge is 3/4” wide. I used balsa or bass wood 1/4 x 3/4 x 36” long then cut down to the length of the actual black tie. The 1/4” thick tie slides nicely under the already fastened track. Painted mine black. Looked great with ballast. Very inexpensive.
