Very interestling postings!  Reminds me of several old, abandoned tunnels l have visited.  The one (only) interurban tunnel in Ohio, between Zanesville and Columbus, once a picnic site and car destination, is now known for rattle snake population.  That Crozet tunnel seems like a long tunnel for that era....
