I don't see any downside to removal of the plastic window. I did three of mine and they are quite sharp. I  got better at taking them apart as I progressed...and GRJ suggested I take the drawbar off the trucks to get better access to the screws which I should have in the first place. Once you have the screws out, you have to reach in and unplug the wire to the lighting. Then it's apart. I take the light strip out and remove the cupola to remove the window and also cutaway the inside of the cupola side tabs so I can replace the light strip and plug it in last before putting the cupola back on. The ridges on the cupola side tabs prevent removing the cupola with the light strip installed.

I had a couple of duplicates, PRR and CSX, which I didn't touch yet and was selling them in the forum here. Still have the CSX if anyone wants it. The camera picture is pretty ok without having to take the plastic window out. But I probably would anyway. It's just so much sharper with out the window and no flare from bright light sources.

Downside? I agree there's no downside but just bothers me that the process to remove the window (as you described it) is a bit much to ask of the customer for a ~$100 caboose. And as I recall from some of the other threads on these, several folks had quite a time getting these apart and back together. If you could simply pop out the window I might be more inclined to buy one of these.

Still on the fence.
