Hi Dallas. No. The letter designated a specific route for the train. For example, the F train during the time I model, ran on a route from Queens to midtown Manhattan and then turning south to Brooklyn. Other letters and numbers on various NYC subway trains ran different routes. This was all incorporated on a map to help riders figure out how to get to their appropriate destination by train .
