Has anyone done cost comparison between, Glenn Synder, baseboard molding and culling straight cheap 1x4 boards from HD ? Even at todays inflated wood prices, the 1 x 4 boards will win. That will be real money for 500 linear feet of shelves.
Glad my shelves are already built. I backed mine with 1/8 inch Masonite, and stood them on the floor with only two small screws holding them to the wall. Grooves were routed in each shelf for train wheels and the shelves are 4 1/2 inches apart which allows the maximum number of shelves and while accommodating all locos and cars. I painted them off white so the trains will show out better. They are movable to other rooms or houses which is what I did for 4 housing moves and made in two sections to allow movement through doors and up steps.
More shelves will not be needed as I will cull the trains on the shelves.
I understand that some have started with Glenn Synder or such and need to continue with that.
