Picture shows my Golden Gate Depot New Haven Railroad heavyweight observation car Flying Cloud received today July 9, 2019. I’m not sure the rear observation platform of my car is assembled correctly. The rear wall of the car is recessed about one inch ahead of the rear edges of the car sidewalls. It seems to me that the rear wall should be flush with the ends of the rear sidewalls. Could the rear wall have been left off my car or mis-positioned? Would like to see your photographs of the rear platform of this car.

yes it is assembled correctly. these are generic heavyweight cars from a pullman design. Here is a PRR heavyweight that is similar to mine:
