Has anyone taken the workings of a Lionel Supper Base B unit and placed it in an older unpowered A F3

I am thinking about removing the inner workings of a Lionel Super Base B unit and putting them into an unpowered trailing A, in this case an F3. I am wondering if this has been tried and if so, what complications did you run into?
