Lou,

My school's engineering department has the professors either doing one of two things:

- They record themselves doing the lab and we use their data

- The students will do everything via simulation software

It is not ideal, but we can still learn information and generate reports.

Our program is work based learning.  The degrees are in MEMS (micro electro mechanical systems).  The labs are all hands on (e.g. how to thread a gold wire bonder or soldering 0402 components under a microscope).

Anyway, know that there are a number of engineers and educators here on the forum, including those who have small manufacturing businesses that supply us with needed components.  As a potential EE you should be following a fellow known as GUNRUNNERJOHN.  And there are manufacturers like Scott Mann from Sunset Third Rail and Steve Horvath from Atlas.

The resources here are vast.
